Her son, speaking to the French outlet Ouest-France, expressed his profound distress, recounting how his mother, a woman of advanced age, was subjected to the indignity of being handcuffed, both her hands and feet bound, as if she were a dangerous criminal.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the overarching agency for ICE, has stated that an individual matching Marie-Thérèse’s name and nationality entered the country in June of the previous year and subsequently overstayed her 90-day visa. However, her son vehemently disputes this narrative, asserting that his mother was in the process of applying for a green card, a crucial step towards securing her legal residency in the United States, at the time of her apprehension. This discrepancy in accounts fuels the complexity of her situation, raising questions about the circumstances that led to her detention.
